Safeguarding at St Wystan’s School

At St Wystan’s School, the safety and wellbeing of each pupil is of paramount importance to us; it is our collective belief that each pupil has the right to be safe, happy and supported. Our staff are fully committed to offering strong pastoral care and are vigilant to the needs of each pupil in our school. We recognise that safeguarding is the responsibility of every adult and ensure that each member of staff has up to date training on how to keep our pupils safe.

We follow safer recruitment practices, ensuring all staff are selected with the safety and well-being of our pupils firmly in mind.

Should you have a concern about a pupil, please contact a member of our safeguarding team.

Should you have a concern outside of regular school hours, please contact: safeguarding@stwystans.org.uk

Early Help

There will always be children, young people and families that need support. Early Help is offered directly to families that require support by Derbyshire County Council. Information on Early Help can be found at the following link: Support for families and early help – Derbyshire County Council

Private Fostering

A child or young person is privately fostered if they are under 16 (or 18 if disabled) and looked after by someone who is not a close relative for 28 days or more. Whenever private arrangements like this are made, both the parent and the carer must notify the local authority of where the child is living. If you are looking after a child and think you could be a private foster carer or you are the parent of a child who is cared for by someone who is not a relative, contact Derbyshire County Council for advice: 0800 083 7744

Your needs can also be discussed confidentially with the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.
