Exciting Easter Holiday Activities for Families

As the Easter weekend approaches, families at St Wystan’s School have a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time together, creating cherished memories and sharing new adventures. Renowned for our nurturing environment and strong family values, we understand the importance of engaging children in meaningful activities that foster learning, creativity, and community spirit.

Whether you are staying local or exploring further afield, our Headteacher Ms Lebihan has compiled a list of fantastic things to do with your children over the break.

  1. Easter Egg Hunts & Spring Trails

Nothing says Easter like a fun-filled egg hunt! Many local venues in and around Derby offer organised Easter trails, complete with chocolate rewards and exciting activities. Kedleston Hall and Calke Abbey, both within easy reach, host enchanting Easter-themed trails through their grounds, providing a perfect blend of outdoor adventure and historical discovery.

  1. Visit a Local Farm or Wildlife Park

Spring is a fantastic time to visit a farm, as children can witness the magic of lambing season and interact with baby animals. Bluebell Dairy and Matlock Farm Park are both excellent choices for hands-on animal encounters and play areas. At St Wystan’s, we encourage outdoor learning and appreciation of nature, making farm visits an ideal Easter activity.

  1. Get Creative with Easter Crafts

Crafting is a great way to spend quality time indoors while encouraging creativity and fine motor skills. Why not try decorating Easter eggs, making spring wreaths, or creating homemade Easter cards for friends and family? These activities align with our ethos of nurturing creativity and self-expression.

  1. Explore Local Museums & Heritage Sites

Derby and the surrounding areas are rich in history and culture, offering plenty of opportunities for educational and entertaining days out. The Museum of Making at Derby Silk Mill and the National Trust’s Sudbury Hall provide interactive exhibits that bring history to life. A visit to these sites is a brilliant way to support your child’s curiosity and love of learning beyond the classroom.

  1. Family-Friendly Walks & Outdoor Adventures

Spring is the perfect time to enjoy the great outdoors and Derbyshire is home to some of the best countryside walks. Whether you opt for the gentle trails around Elvaston Castle or the more adventurous routes in the Peak District, walking together promotes wellbeing and strengthens family bonds. Turn a walk into a nature scavenger hunt to keep younger children engaged.

  1. Join a Holiday or Sports Club

There are plenty of Easter holiday clubs and sports clubs available in the area. Many offer a fantastic mix of sports, drama, and arts, helping children develop new skills and make friends. At St Wystan’s, we champion a holistic approach to education, ensuring our pupils have opportunities for both academic and extracurricular enrichment.

  1. Bake Easter Treats Together

Baking is a wonderful way to teach children new skills while spending quality time as a family. Simple recipes like Easter nests and bunny-shaped biscuits are great for little hands to help with and create delicious treats to share together.

  1. Give Back to the Community

Easter is a time of renewal and generosity, making it the perfect opportunity to engage in acts of kindness. Encourage your child to take part in a local charity initiative, such as donating Easter eggs to food banks or visiting elderly neighbours. As a school that values community-mindedness, we believe in instilling a sense of social responsibility in our pupils.

Creating Lasting Memories This Easter

At St Wystan’s, we are proud to be a school that places family and community at the heart of everything we do. We hope these ideas inspire you to make the most of the Easter holidays, spending time with your children in fun, meaningful ways that reflect our school’s nurturing ethos.

Whatever you choose to do this Easter, we wish all our families a joyful and restful break!
